jacana camp
Private Jao Concession, bordering the Moremi Game Reserve.
Jacana Camp is set on a heart-shaped island on the Jao Flats, and the density of date palms gives Jacana the feeling of a tropical island. Jacana Camp is a true water camp in the Okavango Delta that offers mokoro and walking safaris all year round; guests can hope to see elephants, lions, leopards, sitatunga, red lechwe and buffalo. The Pel's fishing owl is a favourite amongst birders, as are the greater and lesser jacanas.
Short wooden walkways access the 5 meru-style tents at Jacana Camp, each on a wooden deck overlooking the floodplains surrounding the island. The balconies have a small seating area and all the tents have en suite bathrooms which are roofless but enclosed, allowing for showers by starlight.
Jacana Camp's main area includes a large open deck looking out over a picturesque floodplain. The main lodge is a two-storey structure with a comfortable lounge and an open-sided thatched dining room on the upper deck. A small pool with sun loungers and umbrellas is perfect for lazy hot afternoons. Behind the bar is the campfire, lit every evening, where guests can relax with coffee after dinner.
