Tau Pan has been designed to blend in with and complement the surrounding environment of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the second largest game reserve in the world (52,800 km²), and is known for being one of Africa's last true wilderness areas. This is a place to experience solitude and to feel dwarfed by the expansive landscape surrounding the camp.
Tau Pan is situated on a sand ridge overlooking a permanent water hole. Tau Pan features 9 custom-designed thatched chalets – 1 family chalet and 8 twin chalets – all designed with insulated walls to stay cool in the heat and warm in the cold, as temperatures in this region range vastly depending on the season. The rooms have private viewing decks with comfortable loungers, and the sliding doors allow guests to enjoy the view across the Kalahari plains from the comfort of their bed. Should they wish, guests can choose to swap their room for a night on the sleep-out deck and fall asleep under the vast African skies.
Tau Pan is situated on the edge of Tau Pan, one of the most beautiful and wildlife-rich areas of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The focal point of the main area is the fireplace around which the lounge, dining area and library are located, while the viewing deck overlooking the waterhole offers an ideal spot for game viewing as animals gather around for a drink.
