savute under canvas
The Savuti region of Chobe National Park is a place of raw beauty and dramatic wildlife encounters. Known for its open grasslands, seasonal marshes, and predator-rich ecosystems, it is one of Botswana’s most iconic safari destinations. The area is particularly renowned for intense predator dynamics—including lion prides that famously hunt elephant—and the seasonal zebra migration that draws in thousands of animals and their followers.
Nestled close to the Savuti Marsh, Savute Under Canvas offers a truly immersive mobile safari experience. This luxury tented camp blends the adventure of classic camping with the elegance of five-star service, bringing guests closer to nature while maintaining exceptional levels of comfort. With only five tents and a maximum of ten guests, the experience is personal, peaceful, and deeply connected to the land.
Each safari tent is thoughtfully appointed with a double bed, en suite bathroom, and a separate toilet. Guests enjoy alfresco bucket showers with hot water delivered on request, as well as the attentive service of a dedicated personal butler. The design is minimal yet refined, echoing the spirit of early safari expeditions with the added comforts of today’s luxury travel.
The camp’s shared guest areas include a comfortable dining tent, a lounge tent for afternoon relaxation, and a well-stocked drinks area where guests can gather for pre-dinner cocktails or storytelling under canvas. Meals are a highlight of the day, featuring Pan-African cuisine and traditional bush dinners served beneath starlit skies—moments that become treasured safari memories.
As a mobile camp, Savute Under Canvas moves every five to six days to follow wildlife patterns and seasonal changes. This mobility allows guests to explore different corners of the Savuti landscape and enjoy fresh perspectives throughout their stay.
Facilities at Savute Under Canvas include:
- Five luxury mobile safari tents with en suite bathrooms
- Private butler service for every tent
- Alfresco bucket showers with hot water on request
- Canvas dining and relaxation tents

ACTIVITIES
Game drives are the focus at Savute Under Canvas, with daily excursions in open 4×4 vehicles led by experienced guides. The Savuti area is famous for its large lion prides and dramatic encounters with hyenas and leopards. Wild dogs are occasionally seen, and birdlife is abundant year-round.
During the dry season, elephants gather around shrinking waterholes, and it’s not uncommon to see impressive bulls competing for access. From October to November and again in March and April, the area comes alive with the zebra migration—thousands of animals moving across the plains in search of fresh grazing. These migrations offer awe-inspiring scenes of movement, tension, and predator activity.
With its constantly shifting locations and unrivalled access to Botswana’s wildlife heartland, Savute Under Canvas offers a safari experience rooted in discovery, tradition, and connection to the wild.
