Savute Elephant Lodge is located along the banks of the dry Savuti Channel, an area that is characterised by sweeping expanses of savannah grasses and rocky outcrops and is particularly well-known for its elephants and predators.
Savute Elephant Lodge offers a spectacular bird's eye view of elephant drinking from the water hole just meters away from the main building.
Accommodation at Savute Elephant Lodge is in 12 luxurious tented rooms. The large luxury tents are on raised wooden decks, shaded by thatch roofs and perfectly designed to suit the hot climate and maximise views. Each tented suite has a private viewing deck with an outdoor lounge offering magnificent views over the Savuti Channel. Every suite is air-conditioned and features full en suite bathroom facilities with an additional private outdoor shower.
Savute Elephant Lodge's main area includes a heated swimming pool built into the riverbed. The boma, or 'place of eating', is where guests can enjoy traditional alfresco dining while being entertained by the staff. The public area consists of a tastefully furnished dining room and lounge area with an open fireplace, fully stocked bar and air-conditioned library. As all the tents, public spaces and swimming pool overlook the adjacent water hole, it is not uncommon to see a wide variety of birds and animals in this largely dry landscape.
Savute Elephant Lodge promises outstanding game viewing without having to leave the confines of the camp itself. Watching the elephants come down to the local waterhole to drink, bathe and play at sunset is one of those iconic African moments. However, Savute Elephant Lodge does offer game drives in the morning and late afternoons, where there are excellent opportunities to see wildlife on the now dry Savuti Marsh, which is also home to the zebra migration during February and October. Guests can also include an excursion to see the historic San rock paintings or the ancient Gametrackers Baobabs.
