Camp Okavango
Shinde Concession, northern Okavango Delta
Camp Okavango is a unique and exclusive camp within the 1000th UNESCO World Heritage Site. Camp Okavango offers guests a year-round water wilderness experience in arguably the finest wilderness wetland in the world, renowned as a haven for rare species such as the elusive Sitatunga antelope and the Pel's fishing owl. The luxury and style of Camp Okavango blend effortlessly into this wilderness and is the ideal base from which to discover the beauty of this wetland ecosystem.
Camp Okavango accommodates only 24 guests in 11 intimate safari suites and 1 family suite consisting of 2 bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom. Each guest suite has been built on raised wooden platforms beneath the thick Okavango Delta vegetation. The stack-away sliding doors open onto a private open-air viewing deck offering beautiful views over the Okavango Delta. Guests spending three nights or more at Camp Okavango can enjoy a night on the new Camp Okavango sleepout deck, where they can sleep under the stars.
Camp Okavango's main area comprises a network of interconnected walkways linking up two lounges, a dining room, a library, a self-service bar and a curio shop. Sweeping ramps lead to the lower-level deck with two open-air fire pits and comfortable seating areas to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. Finally, there is a third deck with a rim-flow swimming pool and a thatched lounge for those warm summer days. With the open-air design and elevated position, the new Camp Okavango is an eco-sensitive lodge that captures the Okavango Delta's very essence.
Activities
Camp Okavango is a water-based camp offering motorboat excursions, mokoro trails, wilderness bush walks, fishing and birding, all conducted by experienced professional guides who will expertly navigate guests through the many meandering, reed-lined waterways. There is nothing comparable to guided bush walks for getting a little closer to nature. Conducted on a number of the nearby islands, these offer an opportunity to track some of the larger land-based species that inhabit this water wilderness. Birding enthusiasts have numerous birding opportunities, and anglers can put their skills against bream and tigerfish on a catch-and-release basis.
Do note that Camp Okavango is a water-based camp and game drive activities are not offered.
